Glossary ​

Quick reference for terminology used in the Engineer App.

A ​

ACS : Accredited Certification Scheme - gas safety qualifications required for Gas Safe registration (e.g., CCN1, CENWAT).

Audit : The review process where support staff check an engineer's submitted work before marking a job complete.

Availability : Time slots an engineer marks as available to receive job offers.

B ​

Banned : Availability status where an engineer cannot receive jobs for a day, either due to declining too many offers or manual block by a manager.

BER : Beyond Economical Repair - when the cost of repairing equipment exceeds its value or replacement cost.

Benchmark : An industry standard checklist that ensures installations meet quality requirements.

C ​

Callout : An urgent, often same-day job - typically for breakdowns or emergencies.

Combi Boiler : A combination boiler that provides heating and hot water without a separate tank. One of three boiler installation types (combi, system, heat-only).

Cylinder : A hot water storage tank, typically installed with heat pump systems.

CP1 : Commissioning Proforma 1 - a certificate confirming a gas appliance has been safely installed. See CP1 Certificates.

D ​

Data Plate : The manufacturer's label on an appliance showing model number, serial number, and specifications. A common required photo.

DBS Check : Disclosure & Barring Service check - a criminal record check required for all engineers.

Diary : The calendar view showing an engineer's scheduled jobs.

E ​

ECC : Electrical Completion Certificate - a form confirming electrical work has been safely completed on an installation.

ECS Card : Electrotechnical Certification Scheme card - a competency card for electricians that can replace multiple qualification documents.

Engineer : A self-employed tradesperson (plumber, gas engineer, electrician) who uses the app to complete jobs.

ETA : Estimated Time of Arrival - sent to customers to let them know when the engineer will arrive.

F ​

FGAS : F-Gas certification - required qualification for engineers working with refrigerants (air conditioning).

FGA : Flue Gas Analyser - a device used to measure combustion gases. Must have valid calibration certificate.

Flue : The pipe that carries exhaust gases from a boiler or gas appliance to outside the property.

Follow-up Visit : A return visit to complete work after parts have been ordered (used in repair and callout jobs).

G ​

Gas Safe : The official register of gas engineers in the UK. Engineers must be Gas Safe registered to work on gas appliances.

GC Number : Gas Council number - a unique identifier for gas appliances.

H ​

HSE : Health & Safety Executive - the UK government body responsible for workplace health and safety regulations.

I ​

Inspection Visit : The initial diagnostic visit to identify problems with equipment (used in repair and callout jobs).

Installation : A job type involving fitting new equipment (boilers, AC units, EV chargers, etc.).

Intercom : The in-app live chat system for contacting engineer support.

Inverter : A device that converts DC electricity from solar panels into AC electricity for home use.

Invoice : Payment document generated after a job is approved, viewable in Profile > Company > Invoices.

J ​

Job : A piece of work assigned to an engineer. See Jobs Overview.

Job Offer : A job that has been offered to an engineer but not yet accepted.

L ​

LPG : Liquefied Petroleum Gas - an alternative fuel type for boilers (requires additional certification).

M ​

Main Installer : The company owner/primary account holder who manages company documents and sub-installers.

Materials : Equipment and parts sent to the customer ahead of the job for the engineer to install.

MFT : Multifunction Tester - electrical testing equipment. Must have valid calibration certificate.

N ​

NVQ : National Vocational Qualification - work-based qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation).

O ​

OTA (Over-The-Air) : A method for delivering app updates directly to users' devices without going through the app store. OTA updates can push JavaScript and asset changes instantly, but cannot include native code changes. See OTA Updates.

Order Short ID : A short reference code for a job (e.g., "ABC123"), used for quick identification.

P ​

Pack : Additional materials included with an installation job (e.g., radiators, TRVs, smart home devices).

Part P : Building regulations covering electrical work in dwellings.

PV : Photovoltaic - technology that converts sunlight into electricity. Solar panels are often called "PV panels" or "PV arrays".

Preallocated : A job state where the job is reserved for a specific engineer but not yet accepted.

Product Application : The process of applying to work on a specific product type (e.g., Boiler, EV Charger). See Product Applications.

Push Notification : An alert sent to the engineer's phone, typically for new job offers.

R ​

Ready for Audit : Job status indicating the engineer has completed their work and submitted it for review.

Regional Offer : A job broadcast to all eligible engineers in a geographic area. First to accept gets the job. See Regional Offers.

Remedial : Follow-up work to address additional tasks, either as a visit type or a standalone job linked to a parent installation.

Repair : A job type involving fixing broken equipment.

Risk Assessment : A mandatory safety check engineers complete before starting work. See Risk Assessments.

S ​

Service : A job type involving routine maintenance of equipment.

Signed Off : Job status indicating the work has passed audit review and is approved.

Sub-Installer : An engineer working under a main installer's company account.

Subscription Visit : A callout type for customers with active service plans.

Support Staff : Zuno team members who review completed work and assist engineers.

T ​

Time Slot : The scheduled window for a job (e.g., morning, afternoon).

TRV : Thermostatic Radiator Valve - a device that controls individual radiator temperatures. May be included as a pack on boiler installations.

V ​

Visit : An individual appointment within a multi-visit job (repair or callout). Types include inspection, follow-up, and remedial.

W ​

Walkthrough : The customer handover process at the end of an installation where the engineer explains the new equipment and obtains customer signature.
